Growing up on a beautiful Bay in the small Cuban town of Bahia Honda, I never imagined that I'd be living in Minnesota, far from the ocean and the beaches. Now I see that, even back then, I was destined to be in fashion. My childhood interest in helping my mother choose her outfits and my excited curiosity searching through my great grandmother's dressers for her fashion magazines and the clothes she made along with my interest in art have always kept me focused on the style and fashion of those around me.
In school I discovered I could draw and my sketch pad was my constant companion. My drawing ability got me into a special arts school and that attention on art led to a defining moment in my life. I had taken a beer advertisement showing a woman in a black dress and drawn it so many times that my drawings eventually looked like reproductions of the advertisement. But my eye wasn't satisfied with that, so I changed the dress on the woman. And that, as they say, was that. I was hooked on fashion.
Since then I finished at the arts school in Cuba and my family moved to Miami. I struggled for years to get established in this country and pursue my career in fashion. Then the unexpected happened and I moved to Minneapolis, where in just a few years I've set up an atelier and opened an online store. I may be getting a late start, but I know that I'm beginning what I hope will be many years in fashion.
